Stonehurst Manor

Stonehurst Manor stands on a wooded rise along White Mountain Highway (NH Route 16) in North Conway, New Hampshire, at the commercial center of the Mount Washington Valley tourist corridor. North Conway is the primary gateway town for the White Mountain National Forest, with direct access to hiking, skiing at nearby Cranmore and Attitash mountains, the Mount Washington Valley outlet shopping district at Settler's Green, and the scenic Conway Scenic Railroad. The manor building is a late-Victorian country house constructed in the 1870s and expanded in the early 20th century for use as a private estate, featuring original stonework, hand-carved woodwork, and leaded-glass windows that give the property its English country-house character.

The 24 guest rooms are distributed between the original manor house and a motel-style wing addition at the rear of the property. Manor rooms in the original building tend to be smaller but include more architectural detail—exposed beams, original hearths, decorative moldings, and the irregular footprints typical of historic construction. Superior and family rooms in the addition are more standard in layout and offer updated bathrooms. Carriage house suites provide the most space and privacy, with fireplaces as a standard feature. Several rooms throughout the property include wood-burning or gas fireplaces.

Dining centers on the Manor Restaurant, a well-regarded casual dining room serving American and New England fare for breakfast and dinner, supplemented by an attached pub offering a full bar, craft beer selection, and lighter menu items. The outdoor patio and wooded grounds are popular in summer for pre-dinner drinks.

An outdoor pool operates seasonally from late spring through early fall. The property does not offer a spa or fitness center. The North Conway village center and its concentration of restaurants, shops, and outfitters is a 10-minute walk or 2-minute drive south. Scenic drives through Crawford Notch and Pinkham Notch—the primary White Mountain scenic corridors—begin within a few miles of the property.

Tips for visiting

  • Carriage house suites offer the most space and privacy; manor rooms in the original building have more character but compact bathrooms typical of Victorian-era construction.
  • North Conway's outlet shopping district at Settler's Green is a 5-minute drive south and can be useful on overcast or rainy days when outdoor activities are less appealing.
  • Cranmore Mountain Resort, the closest downhill ski area, is approximately 1.5 miles away and operates a shuttle during ski season; confirm availability when booking winter stays.
  • The pub stays open later than the main restaurant and is a reliable option for arrival-evening food and drinks without a full dinner reservation.
  • Fall foliage peaks in the Mount Washington Valley in early to mid-October; rooms book out 6 to 12 months in advance for the Columbus Day weekend.
