Exeter Inn

The Exeter Inn stands on Front Street in the center of Exeter, New Hampshire, a small city on the Squamscott River in the southeastern corner of the state, approximately 11 miles west of Hampton Beach and 50 miles north of Boston. Exeter is one of New Hampshire's oldest colonial settlements, founded in 1638, and served briefly as the state's capital during the Revolutionary War. The town is the home of Phillips Exeter Academy, one of the most academically selective preparatory schools in the United States, whose Federal-style campus extends across much of the central town. The current Exeter Inn building, a brick Georgian Colonial structure, dates to 1932 and was constructed to provide lodging for Academy visitors, parents, and alumni—a role the property has maintained for nearly a century.

The inn offers 46 rooms in classic and deluxe configurations, along with a small number of junior suites. Classic rooms feature traditional New England furnishings with updated amenities; deluxe rooms are more spacious and include superior bedding and bath products. Junior suites provide living area separation and are well-suited for extended stays. The building's red-brick exterior and period interior trim are consistent with the colonial architectural vocabulary of the surrounding Phillips Exeter campus and Exeter town center.

Epoch Restaurant & Bar occupies the inn's primary dining space, serving American cuisine with New England seasonal ingredients for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The bar maintains an extensive cocktail list and a well-curated regional craft beer selection. A garden patio behind the inn provides outdoor dining from late spring through early fall in a setting shielded from Front Street traffic. The restaurant operates independently and draws diners from throughout the Exeter area.

The inn does not offer a pool or spa. Front Street's commercial district—including the Exeter historic core, independent shops, and several additional dining options—is walkable from the front door. The Exeter-Hampton Branch trail for walking and cycling runs nearby. Amtrak's Downeaster service stops at Exeter station, approximately half a mile away, with direct service to Portland, Maine, and Boston North Station.
