Reno Riverwalk District

The Reno Riverwalk District runs along the Truckee River through the heart of downtown Reno, Nevada, forming the most vibrant and walkable cultural corridor in the city. The Truckee River itself originates at Lake Tahoe and flows through downtown Reno before continuing into Pyramid Lake, and the riverwalk path that borders it passes through an exceptionally diverse concentration of restaurants, galleries, craft breweries, boutique shops, and entertainment venues housed in converted historic buildings along Riverside Drive and adjacent streets. The Truckee River Whitewater Park, located within the riverwalk corridor, is a series of engineered rapids and channels used for kayaking and whitewater sport — unusual in a downtown urban setting. Spectators can watch from bridges and bankside seating while kayakers navigate the drops. Numerous launch points along the river provide access for recreational kayakers and paddleboarders. The Riverwalk District is the focal point of Reno's arts scene: the district contains numerous independent art galleries, and public murals cover building walls throughout the corridor. During July, the Artown festival transforms the entire district into a month-long celebration of arts and culture, with daily free outdoor performances, concerts, dance, and visual art at venues throughout downtown Reno. The Great Basin Brewing Company taproom, the Liberty Food & Wine Exchange, and numerous farm-to-table restaurants make the district a dining destination in its own right. The Reno Aces Triple-A baseball team plays at Greater Nevada Field at the northern end of the district during the summer season. Evening in the Riverwalk District is particularly lively during summer, with outdoor dining, live music from several venues, and the river's cooling effect providing natural air conditioning.
