Ocean City Beach

Ocean City Beach is Maryland's premier Atlantic resort destination, stretching three continuous miles of white-sand shoreline backed by one of the East Coast's most iconic boardwalks. Located at the eastern tip of Maryland's Eastern Shore, this barrier island community draws more than eight million visitors annually, making it the state's busiest beach. The sand is fine and pale, and the Atlantic surf here is moderate — energetic enough for bodyboarding and boogie boarding but calmer than beaches farther north. Waves typically reach two to four feet in summer, with stronger swells in early spring and fall. North of 27th Street the beach becomes quieter and more residential, ideal for families seeking less congestion. The beach is free to access; parking is the main logistical challenge in peak season. Hotels along North Ocean City offer beachfront access directly from their properties. The northern stretches beyond 100th Street attract a quieter, older demographic while the Inlet area skews younger and livelier after dark. Sun lounger and umbrella rentals are widely available from private concessionaires along the Boardwalk corridor.
