Colorado counts more craft breweries per capita than almost any other American state, with Denver serving as the hub of that industry — more than one hundred breweries operate within the city limits, producing everything from light pilsners and wheat beers to barrel-aged imperial stouts and experimental wild ales. This four-hour guided brewery tour visits four to five of Denver's most historically significant craft establishments, offering a structured arc through the city's brewing history from its earliest Lower Downtown pioneers to the contemporary River North innovators who have redefined what a Colorado taproom looks like. The tour opens at Wynkoop Brewing Company, Colorado's first craft brewery, founded in 1988 in LoDo by a group that included future governor John Hickenlooper. Wynkoop converted a derelict warehouse near Union Station into the anchor establishment that sparked Denver's craft beer revival — the building at 1634 18th Street still operates as a full-service brewpub and billiard hall. From LoDo, the tour proceeds into the River North Art District, known as RiNo, where Renegade Brewing Company operates a flagship taproom representing the district's second-generation transformation of former warehouse buildings into destination brewing spaces. Great Divide Brewing Company, one of Colorado's most decorated breweries with multiple Great American Beer Festival medals, offers tastings of flagship ales including the celebrated Yeti Imperial Stout alongside barrel-aged specialties and seasonal releases at its Barrel Bar on Arapahoe Street. The Breckenridge Brewery's Denver brewpub location rounds out the itinerary, pairing a Colorado-inspired food menu with the brand's nationally distributed and locally exclusive beer range. At each stop, the guide leads structured tastings of three to four beers, explaining brewing processes, style characteristics, and each brewery's role in Colorado's craft beer revolution — a movement that has grown from fewer than ten operations statewide in the late 1980s to more than four hundred today.
