Wilbur Hot Springs is a remote clothing-optional resort and nature sanctuary set within 1,800 acres of undeveloped wilderness in the Coast Range foothills of northern California, approximately two hours north of Sacramento near the town of Williams. The property surrounds a natural alkaline mineral spring whose waters emerge at approximately 140°F and feed three outdoor pools maintained at graduated temperatures between 100°F and 112°F, plus a cool plunge pool for contrast bathing. The pools are open around the clock to overnight guests, making early-morning and late-night soaks under a sky largely free of light pollution a central part of the experience.

The atmosphere at Wilbur is defined by radical simplicity. The resort operates a no-alcohol policy, a strict phone-free rule in all outdoor areas, and codes of quiet in the baths and on the surrounding grounds — creating conditions for deep rest and sensory decompression that contrast sharply with conventional spa environments. Most guests arrive to soak, walk the wild-land trails, and disengage from daily routines. Wildlife on the surrounding acreage includes deer, wild turkey, raptors, and seasonal wildflower blooms on the hillsides.

Accommodation is housed in a restored Victorian-era building and ranges from dormitory-style shared rooms to private rooms. All rooms use shared bathroom facilities and the general aesthetic is deliberately rustic — wood-paneled interiors, simple furnishings, no televisions or room telephones. Self-catering kitchen access is available; a communal meals option operates on weekends. Firewood and outdoor cooking areas support independent guests.

Massage therapy is available by appointment from credentialed independent practitioners based on-site, offering Swedish, deep-tissue, and other modalities in a treatment room near the bath house. There are no packaged wellness programs; the structure is freeform. The mineral waters at Wilbur have a distinctive alkaline pH and natural sulfur content. The access road includes an unpaved section that may require a high-clearance vehicle during or after heavy rain. Guests should call ahead in winter to confirm road conditions before traveling.
