Stanyan Park Hotel

Stanyan Park Hotel is a Victorian hotel at 750 Stanyan Street, facing Golden Gate Park at the Haight-Ashbury end, in San Francisco, California. The building dates to 1904 and is a registered example of the city's late nineteenth and early twentieth century Victorian architecture, with period details, a tower and a parlor that give it more character than a standard modern hotel. The location is the main attraction. Golden Gate Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, begins across the street, with the California Academy of Sciences, the de Young Museum and the Conservatory of Flowers all within a walk or short bus ride. The Haight-Ashbury district, famous for its 1960s counterculture history, vintage shops, record stores and cafes, begins at the end of the block, and the University of California San Francisco's Parnassus campus is nearby. Downtown San Francisco is not within walking distance, but Muni buses and the N Judah streetcar line provide connections to Market Street, Union Square and the Embarcadero in about thirty minutes. The hotel is small and traditional, with rooms offered as Standard rooms, Junior Suites and Family Suites, the latter well suited to travellers with children. Amenities listed include a parlor and free Wi-Fi; a complimentary breakfast is traditionally part of stays at small inns of this kind, but visitors should confirm what is currently included. There is no spa, pool or on-site restaurant listed, and guests generally eat at the many cafes and restaurants of Haight Street and the Inner Sunset. The service character is that of a quiet, family-run style property with personal attention rather than extensive facilities, suiting couples, families and travellers who prefer park access and neighbourhood atmosphere to a downtown address. Nightly rates typically run from about $140 to $280, which is moderate for San Francisco. Advance booking is advisable for the summer season and weekends.
