Alabama Weather & Climate Guide 2026

Alabama's climate in numbers — the months that flatter it, the ones to avoid, and what to pack.

Alabama is a Deep South state rich in civil rights history, space exploration heritage, Gulf Coast beaches, and some of the South's finest barbecue. From Birmingham's Renaissance to Huntsville's NASA legacy, and from the Civil Rights landmarks of Selma and Montgomery to the white-sand beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama offers a profoundly American story told across diverse landscapes.

Alabama has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The northern mountains experience cooler temperatures and occasional snow. The Gulf Coast has a marine-influenced climate with hot summers, warm winters, and hurricane risk June-November. Spring and fall are the ideal seasons for visiting most of the state.
