Sub Club is a basement club at 22 Jamaica Street in Glasgow city centre, operating continuously since 1987 and considered one of the world's oldest and most consistently respected venues for underground house and techno music. The club's reputation is built not on size or spectacle but on the quality and purity of its music policy: from the legendary Subculture Saturday nights, which have run uninterrupted since 1994, to the programming depth that has attracted international DJs including Bicep, Ricardo Villalobos, and Nina Kraviz to perform in an intimate basement space that holds a maximum of around 410 people. The room is deliberately small and deliberately simple. Low ceilings, exposed pipes, and a functional aesthetic focus all attention on the dancefloor and the sound. The Funktion-One sound system is the technical heart of the venue — calibrated to the specific dimensions of the basement — and is considered by many within the international dance music community to be among the finest club sound systems in the world. Dancing in Sub Club is a physical as much as a musical experience. The Subculture night on Saturdays has been running since 1994 and is the anchor of the club's identity. Resident DJs Harri and Domenic have curated the night for its entire existence, bringing a continuity of vision and depth of music knowledge that few club nights anywhere can match.
