One of Ukraine's oldest cities, with 11th-12th-century churches including the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Boris and Gleb Cathedral, the Yeletsky Monastery and the Antoniy Caves.
Chernihiv lies about 145 km north of Kyiv and preserves some of the oldest stone churches in Ukraine. Buses take 2-3.5 hours. Because of its proximity to Belarus and past and recent strikes, it is better treated as optional and considered only after checking local security conditions.
