Waterfront Lodge occupies a traditional Tongan building on Vuna Road, Nuku'alofa's main harbour-facing boulevard, within a 10-minute walk of the Royal Palace grounds, the central Talamahu Market, and the domestic ferry terminal. The property stands out visually on the waterfront strip through its use of carved wooden architectural details, decorative ironwork, and traditional Polynesian motifs — an aesthetic that most of the concrete competitors along the same road do not attempt.

Rooms are spacious by regional mid-range standards, with the majority oriented toward the harbour or the property's internal garden courtyard. Air conditioning, private bathrooms with hot water, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen televisions are standard across all room types. Superior rooms add additional floor area and improved water views toward the harbour and the island of Pangaimotu. No swimming pool is on the premises; the waterfront esplanade directly below Vuna Road functions as an informal walking and social gathering space, and day trips to Pangaimotu Island provide beach and snorkel access.

The restaurant is a genuine draw independent of the accommodation and is the property's most consistently praised feature. It serves Tongan and Pacific-influenced dishes with notably generous portions across breakfast, lunch, and dinner services. Local staples such as 'ota ika — raw fish cured in lime juice and coconut cream — and roasted taro appear alongside grilled reef fish, chicken preparations, and Western options. The bar stocks locally brewed Ikale beer alongside regional imports and can prepare fresh-fruit cocktails from seasonal produce.

The tour desk facilitates bookings for Tongatapu day excursions — the Mapu'a 'a Vaea Blowholes, the Ha'amonga 'a Maui trilithon, and Pangaimotu Island day trips by boat are the most common requests — as well as domestic flight bookings and rental car hire for independent travellers. Fua'amotu International Airport is approximately 30 minutes by road.
