Auberge de Jeunesse

Lomé's Auberge de Jeunesse is a youth hostel affiliated with the Hostelling International network, located in the Tokoin district roughly 3 km northeast of the beachfront marina and approximately 1.5 km from the main bush taxi station on Avenue Sarakawa. Tokoin is a mid-city residential quarter — quieter than the port area but well-served by motorcycle taxis and shared vans connecting to the rest of Lomé. The building is a simple single-storey structure arranged around an open courtyard; the architecture is functional and unembellished, consistent with the hostel model of keeping costs low and social space open. Accommodation options include mixed dormitory rooms sleeping four to eight guests with bunk beds, and a small number of single and double private rooms; both dormitory and private options share communal bathrooms with basic cold-water plumbing. A self-catering kitchen with gas burners and shared utensils allows guests to buy ingredients at the nearby market and prepare their own meals, keeping daily expenditure to a minimum. The communal courtyard is the social and informational heart of the hostel: travelers heading to Kpalimé, Koutammakou, or Ghana regularly exchange transport tips, border crossing times, and accommodation recommendations. There is no restaurant, bar, pool, spa, or fitness facility. Street food vendors and small Togolese canteens operate within five minutes on foot. The front desk is staffed primarily by French speakers with some English ability and can assist with locating shared transport options north to Kara or Dapaong. The hostel suits solo travelers, small travel groups, and long-haul overlanders on tight budgets who want a social base in Lomé rather than hotel isolation.
