A popular budget hostel perched on a hillside above Chaweng Beach, offering dorm beds and private rooms with spectacular views over the Gulf of Thailand. Great social atmosphere and highly praised by backpackers.
Jungle Club Hostel occupies a hillside above Chaweng Beach on the eastern coast of Koh Samui, accessed via a steep winding road that climbs from the beach strip into the coconut-palm-covered ridgeline. The elevation — roughly 80 metres above sea level at its highest platforms — delivers an unobstructed panorama over the Gulf of Thailand that guests consistently identify as the defining experience of a stay here. Chaweng's nightlife strip is about 10 minutes downhill by motorbike or songthaew.
The hostel opened in the early 2010s and rapidly developed a reputation among backpacker travellers for the combination of that elevated view and a social atmosphere centred on the infinity pool. The physical structure is multi-level timber decking and open-sided pavilions stepping down the hillside — rustic but intentional, with salvaged wood, exposed beams, tropical planting, and hammocks throughout. The setting photographs well and generates consistent word-of-mouth that keeps occupancy high and the communal atmosphere lively.
Accommodation spans mixed-sex and female-only dormitory beds (in 4- to 10-bed rooms) and private rooms; all share access to communal bathrooms. The hillside layout means some dorm access requires navigating steps — guests with very heavy luggage should be aware. Private rooms are simple with basic furniture; dorms are clean with individual power points and reading lights.
The open-air restaurant and bar is positioned at the highest point for maximum view impact. The menu covers Thai staples, Western breakfasts, burgers, and pasta; food quality is solid for the price category. Bar service extends into evenings with happy hours most days. The infinity pool is the centrepiece of afternoons — the vantage point from the pool looking out over the gulf is the image most guests take away. Staff are experienced with backpacker logistics: motorbike hire, island tours, songthaew timing to and from Chaweng. The hostel does not suit families with young children due to the steep terrain and social-drinking atmosphere.

Tips for visiting
- The access road is steep and narrow; guests without motorbike experience should use the hostel's songthaew service rather than attempting the climb independently
- Bring a dry bag or waterproof case for the pool — the view is worth photographing but afternoon thunderstorms develop quickly during the wet season (May–October)
- Book private rooms at least two weeks ahead during high season (December–January); dorm beds are more available but still fill fast around New Year
