Lamphu House

Lamphu House occupies a restored teak house on Ratchamankhla Road in the Si Phum quarter of the Old City, within easy walking distance of the major temple circuit. The building is an authentic converted northern Thai teak house, a genuinely rare structure in the Old City where most similar buildings have been demolished or significantly altered. The ground floor opens onto a garden courtyard shaded by mature trees, with hammocks, outdoor seating, and a small communal kitchen where guests can store provisions and prepare basic meals. Private rooms are clean and simply furnished with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms; dormitory beds serve the most budget-conscious guests. Rooms are not large but are well maintained and noticeably quieter than guesthouses fronting the main moat-side roads.

The tour desk is one of the better-organised resources at this price point, with reliable connections to cooking schools, trekking operators, elephant sanctuaries, and motorbike rental. Luggage storage is available for guests arriving early or departing after checkout. Staff — often family members of the Thai owners — provide practical directions and local market tips. Wi-Fi covers the garden and common areas reliably. Breakfast is not included but several local restaurants and coffee shops are within two minutes' walk, and the morning market on Chang Phuak Road is within cycling distance. The guesthouse suits backpackers, budget-conscious solo travelers, and couples who value a characterful historic building over hotel amenities.
