Dushanbe Backpackers

Dushanbe Backpackers is located on Dehoti Street in a residential area of central Dushanbe, within walking distance of local markets and small restaurants. The property's most distinctive feature is a rooftop terrace that looks northward toward the Hissar mountain range, providing unobstructed mountain views that are particularly dramatic on clear mornings and during sunset. The hostel has established itself as a primary gathering point for overland travellers using Dushanbe as the staging point for the Pamir Highway.

The building is a converted two-storey house with a small garden at ground level and the rooftop terrace above. The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed, oriented toward travellers who spend significant time in the common areas planning onward routes and exchanging route conditions with others who have recently arrived from Khorog or the Wakhan Corridor.

Dormitory sleeping options include mixed-gender bunk rooms in various sizes, plus a small number of private twin rooms. Bathroom facilities are shared. The hostel is clean and the bunk beds are solid, with individual reading lights and power sockets. Bedding is provided.

The shared kitchen is large enough for simultaneous use by multiple guests and is stocked with basic condiments. Guests regularly use it to prepare food for Pamir Highway departures. A separate bicycle storage area serves the hostel's cycle-touring guests, who represent a notable portion of the clientele during summer months.

Staff are the hostel's main practical asset for Pamir-bound travellers: they maintain current contacts for shared-taxi drivers to Khorog, have up-to-date information on GBAO permit processing times, and can advise on road conditions based on recent arrivals' reports. Bicycle rental is available directly through the hostel, which is unusual for Dushanbe budget accommodation. Laundry service is offered by the hostel, useful before multi-week expeditions.
