Valais Nightlife Guide 2025

Discover the best bars, clubs, and evening entertainment in Valais.

Valais is Switzerland's third-largest and most dramatically alpine canton, home to 40 of the Alps' 52 four-thousand-metre peaks including the iconic Matterhorn. With the driest climate in Switzerland, over 300 sunny days a year, and the country's largest wine-growing region, it offers an extraordinary blend of high-altitude adventure, luxury resorts, and centuries-old culture.

Valais nightlife is dominated by the après-ski culture of its world-class resorts. Verbier has the liveliest nightlife scene in the Alps, rivalling Ibiza or Mykonos for energy during peak ski weeks. Zermatt offers a more sophisticated après-ski experience with chic bars and a cosmopolitan crowd. Crans-Montana and Saas-Fee are quieter. Sion and Martigny have a genuine local Swiss bar scene but are not nightlife destinations.

Nightlife Overview

🌙
Scene
Lively in Verbier and Zermatt, sophisticated in Crans-Montana, quiet in valley towns. The après-ski scene (3–8 PM) is the beating heart of Valais nightlife — outdoor bars, live DJ sets, and a euphoric mountain energy that is hard to find anywhere else in the world.
🕐
Peak Hours
Après-ski kicks off at 3:00 PM with lift closing; bars peak 5–9 PM; clubs open from 10:30 PM and run until 3–5 AM in Verbier
👔
Dress Code
Smart casual in bars; ski wear is fine for après-ski; some Verbier clubs enforce a no-ski-boots and smart dress policy at the door
💰
Average Drink
Beer: CHF 7–14 (local lager in a resort bar); Cocktail: CHF 18–28 (classic cocktail in a Verbier or Zermatt bar)

Important Note

Swiss licensing laws are generally more relaxed in resort towns than in regular Swiss towns. Verbier clubs regularly operate until 5 AM on weekends during ski season. In valley towns, bars close around midnight and clubs by 2 AM.
