Ett Hem — Swedish for 'a home' — occupies a handsome 1910 Arts and Crafts townhouse on a quiet residential street in Östermalm, Stockholm's most elegant neighbourhood. The hotel is reached on foot in around 12 minutes from the Östermalmstorg metro station, placing it close to the Stureplan dining and shopping district, the Historiska museet, and the boutiques of Biblioteksgatan. Despite its urban address, the building backs onto a private walled garden that lends the property a sense of seclusion rare in any capital city.
British designer Ilse Crawford reimagined the interiors in 2012, treating the building as a family residence rather than a conventional hotel. The result is 12 rooms and suites — no two alike — furnished with a mix of antique Swedish pieces, bespoke textiles, and ceramic objects sourced from Scandinavian makers. Rooms range from cosy studies on the upper floors to the largest suite, which spans two levels with its own kitchen. Every room includes a record player and a curated selection of vinyl.
