Nimule Rest House

Nimule Rest House is a budget guesthouse in Nimule town, the principal settlement at South Sudan's southern border crossing with Uganda, in Central Equatoria State. The town sits on the eastern bank of the Nile — narrower and swifter here than in Juba — and serves as both a hub for cross-border trade and the main gateway to Nimule National Park, one of South Sudan's few accessible protected wildlife areas, located approximately two to three kilometres from town. The combination of the Uganda border crossing and the park makes the rest house a natural staging point for overland travelers moving between the two countries, as well as a base for day visits to the park.

The rest house occupies a modest compound of single-storey rooms with corrugated metal roofing, reflecting the construction style prevalent in South Sudan's smaller towns. Rooms are basic but functional: beds with mosquito nets, ceiling fans when electricity is available, and in-room or adjacent shared bathroom facilities. The consistent provision of mosquito nets is the primary environmental concession, and they should be used nightly given the Nile corridor's significant mosquito pressure.

No restaurant operates formally within the rest house, but local food stalls and small eating houses within a short walk serve South Sudanese staples and simple cooked meals. The Nimule market area, accessible on foot, has traders selling drinks, snacks, and basic supplies. Meals can sometimes be arranged informally through rest house staff with advance notice.

The property is particularly suited to hikers and wildlife observers planning time in Nimule National Park, where elephants, buffalo, hippos, and other species can be observed in semi-accessible terrain. Staff can provide directional information for reaching park entry points and connecting with local guides.
