Eugene's House

Eugene's House is a small hanok guesthouse on a quiet alley in Bukchon-ro, inside the Bukchon Hanok Village between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace, two of Seoul's most visited royal sites. The building is a restored traditional Korean hanok with a wood-frame courtyard, tiled roof, and sliding paper doors, giving guests a direct sense of how Seoul's old residential neighbourhoods were laid out before high-rise development. Rooms are simple and traditional, with ondol underfloor heating, low furniture, and bedding laid out on the floor rather than Western-style beds; most rooms share bathroom facilities down the hall rather than offering en-suite plumbing. There is no in-house restaurant, but a Korean-style breakfast is typically available, and the surrounding lanes are filled with small cafes, hanbok rental shops, and traditional craft studios within a few minutes' walk. The guesthouse has no spa, pool, or fitness facilities; its appeal is the authenticity of staying inside a working hanok neighbourhood rather than a conventional hotel building. Service is personal and family-run rather than staffed around the clock, which suits travellers prioritising cultural immersion over hotel-style amenities, and the central courtyard location makes it an easy walking base for exploring Bukchon's photogenic streets early in the morning before tour groups arrive.
