Chata pri Zelenom plese (Hut at the Green Lake) sits at 1551 metres above sea level on the southern flank of the High Tatras, directly beside Zelené pleso — one of the most photographed alpine lakes in Slovakia. There are no roads to the hut; the main approach is a two-hour marked walk from Tatranská Lomnica via the Javorinská valley, or a shorter ascent via the Skalnaté pleso cable car followed by a ridge descent. The isolation is the entire point.
The building is a classic Slovak mountain chalet, weathered and functional, operated as part of the official network of high-altitude mountain huts. Accommodation consists of bunk-bed dormitories and a handful of small double rooms, all with shared bathroom facilities. Towels and bedding are provided. The atmosphere is communal and unpretentious, with guests typically comparing routes over dinner.
The kitchen produces hearty mountain fare: goulash, bean soup, grilled meats, and homemade pastries. A selection of Slovak beers and hot drinks is always available. Meals are served at communal tables and the dining room functions as a social gathering point for trekkers.
The hut sits at the junction of several marked trails into the Tatras interior, making it an ideal overnight base for the High Tatras traverse route or for day hikes toward Kopský saddle and the surrounding ridges. No wellness facilities exist. Mobile signal is weak or absent above the treeline. Cash is strongly recommended as card infrastructure is unreliable at altitude.
