Al Wakrah is a coastal town about 15 to 20 km south of central Doha, reached in roughly 25 to 30 minutes by road or by the Doha Metro Red Line. The metro runs to Al Wakra station at QAR 2 (about $0.55) for a standard single or QAR 6 (about $1.65) for a day pass, with services Saturday to Thursday from 05:00 to 01:00 and Friday from 09:00 to 01:00 according to Qatar Rail's schedule effective 1 January 2025. From the station, a Metrolink feeder bus or a short taxi covers the last stretch, and Karwa taxi, Uber or Careem run directly from Doha. Souq Al Wakra is a restored traditional market of low, sand-coloured buildings with arched walkways, small shops, cafes, restaurants and craft stalls, and it is a quieter, more family-oriented alternative to Souq Waqif. Beside it, the Al Wakrah corniche is a beach waterfront with promenades, a sandy beach and views of fishing dhows, and the old harbour area keeps a link with the town's pearling and fishing past. A suggested day starts mid-morning with a browse through the souq, followed by lunch at one of its restaurants serving Arabic, seafood and international dishes. The afternoon suits a walk along the corniche, with time on the beach and in the surrounding park, then dinner as the souq lights up in the evening. The best season is November to March; summer days are hot and humid, though evenings are still used for walking. Food stops are easy, since the souq has a concentration of cafes and restaurants, and the corniche has kiosks for snacks and drinks. Visitors travelling by metro avoid parking and taxi costs, which makes this the cheapest day trip from Doha. Opening times of individual shops vary, with many closing in the early afternoon and reopening in the evening, so planning for late afternoon and evening gives the most activity. The beach and corniche are free to enter.
