The Yeatman Hotel

The Yeatman Hotel occupies a terraced hillside in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south bank of the Douro River directly opposite Porto's UNESCO-listed Ribeira district. The Dom Luís I Bridge is visible from most guest rooms and stands roughly 1.5 km away on foot, with the historic port wine lodge quarter — including the cellars of Graham's, Taylor's, and Sandeman — within walking distance along the ridge. Opened in 2010 and purpose-built as a wine hotel, the contemporary structure incorporates Portuguese materials and references the region's viticultural heritage across every interior surface, from hand-painted tile panels in the corridors to curated artwork depicting centuries of port wine trade.

The 82 rooms and suites range from Superior Rooms with private terraces to Wine Lodges with separate living areas and personalised selections drawn from the property's 25,000-bottle cellar. All categories include rainfall showers; suites add deep soaking tubs and upgraded bath amenities. Views of the Douro and Porto skyline are available from upper-floor rooms on the river-facing side.

The Yeatman Restaurant holds two Michelin stars — the only two-starred restaurant in the Porto metropolitan area. Chef Ricardo Costa produces contemporary Portuguese tasting menus, and the wine list draws on one of Portugal's most comprehensive private cellars. The more casual Caudalie Bistrot operates poolside for lighter lunches and drinks.
