The Yeatman

The Yeatman sits on a hillside in Vila Nova de Gaia, directly across the Douro River from Porto's historic centre, commanding panoramic views over the port wine lodges, the river, and the old city skyline. The Dom Luís I Bridge lies within a 10-minute walk, and the Jardim do Morro cable car connects the hotel neighbourhood to the Ribeira waterfront in minutes. Porto's airport is approximately 25 minutes by taxi.

Opened in 2010 and managed by the Taylor's Port group, the hotel was conceived as a living monument to Portuguese wine. Its architecture pairs contemporary glass and pale stone with azulejo-clad feature walls, and each of the 82 rooms and suites is sponsored by a different port wine house, decorated with wine-related artwork unique to that producer. The aesthetic is grand but never fussy.

Accommodation ranges from Deluxe Doubles with Juliet balconies and Douro vistas to expansive suites with private plunge pools and full butler service. Every room features a walk-in wine cellar stocked with miniature port selections. Bathrooms are finished in Portuguese marble with freestanding or deep-soaking tubs in upper categories.

The signature restaurant, Restaurante The Yeatman, holds two Michelin stars under chef Ricardo Costa, whose tasting menus pair contemporary Portuguese cuisine with one of the country's most extensive port and wine cellars. The more casual Barca Douro terrace restaurant serves lighter lunches and pool-side dining with the same river backdrop.

The Caudalie-affiliated wine spa offers vinotherapy treatments, grape-seed body wraps, a hammam, and a dedicated couples' suite. Two outdoor infinity pools—one adult-only—face the Porto skyline. A wine school hosts blending sessions and guided cellar tastings for guests. The concierge team arranges private port lodge tours, Douro Valley wine cruises by private yacht, and helicopter transfers. The property caters primarily to adults and couples, though families are welcomed during school holiday periods.
