Travellers House

Travellers House occupies a historic building on Rua Augusta, Baixa's pedestrian spine, three minutes from Baixa-Chiado metro station and close to Praça do Comércio, the Santa Justa Lift and Rossio, making it one of the most walkable hostel bases in Lisbon. The building retains high ceilings and polished wooden floors from its original construction, and the interior is furnished with antiques and colourful touches that give the property a more character-driven feel than a typical bunk-bed hostel. Rooms include mixed dorms, a female-only dorm and private rooms, all with bunk beds and shared bathrooms finished in distinctive tiles depicting famous historical figures. A shared kitchen supports self-catering, and a lounge with a flat-screen TV and a nightly movie screening doubles as the main social space, alongside free tea and coffee available throughout the day. Free breakfast is included each morning, and the 24-hour front desk provides safety deposit boxes and luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures. There is no restaurant, bar, spa or fitness facility, keeping the focus on the social, home-like atmosphere rather than amenities. Staff are known for organising evening meals and activities and for being genuinely helpful with local recommendations, giving the hostel a friendly, community feel that suits solo travellers in particular.
