The building retains grand original features such as high ceilings, decorative moulding, and wide staircases, reworked with a mix of vintage furniture and contemporary art that gives the property a bohemian, design-led character split across a hostel wing and a separate, more polished suites annex nearby. Accommodation spans mixed dorms with privacy curtains, straightforward private rooms, and larger suites in the associated Independente Suites & Terrace building for guests wanting more space and their own bathroom. The on-site restaurant, Decadente, is a genuine dining draw in its own right, serving modern Portuguese small plates and a well-regarded weekend brunch, while the ground-floor bar and outdoor terrace are popular for sunset drinks overlooking the city.
