Hotel do Chiado

Hotel do Chiado occupies the upper floors of a nineteenth-century building at 114 Rua Nova do Almada, accessed by lift from street level in the heart of Chiado. The address anchors guests at the district's commercial and cultural core: the bookshops and galleries of Rua Garrett begin immediately east, A Brasileira café is two minutes on foot, and the Praça do Camões opens immediately to the west. The Chiado metro station is under one hundred metres from the entrance, providing direct access to the airport interchange. Alfama and Belém are both reachable in under thirty minutes by tram or metro.

The hotel was conceived by architect João Paciência as a contemporary insertion into Chiado's ornate streetscape. Common areas use natural stone and restrained palettes that allow the city views framed in room windows to function as the primary decorative element. Rooms are compact but efficiently designed, with dark hardwood joinery, crisp white linens, and air conditioning. Categories progress from standard doubles through superior and deluxe configurations to a suite; the deluxe tier adds panoramic rooftop and river views that justify the modest supplement.

The hotel's defining feature is a rooftop terrace offering a 360-degree prospect over Baixa rooftops to the Tagus and the Castelo de São Jorge. A rooftop bar serves cocktails and light snacks from early evening and draws both hotel guests and local visitors, particularly at dusk. No in-house restaurant operates, but Chiado's density of dining options — from petiscos bars and traditional tascas to tasting-menu restaurants — means guests are never more than a short walk from excellent food. The concierge manages reservations and theatre bookings. No spa or pool is operated on the premises.
