Miradouro da Graça

Miradouro da Graça is a hilltop viewpoint in Lisbon's Graça neighbourhood, situated beside the Igreja da Graça convent on the city's highest inhabited hill. It is considered by many regular visitors and residents to be the finest viewpoint in Lisbon — less celebrated than Portas do Sol or São Pedro de Alcântara, and consequently less saturated with tourists, particularly in the mornings. The belvedere offers an unobstructed panorama from São Jorge Castle on the right, across the terracotta rooftops of Alfama and the Mouraria quarter, to the silver expanse of the Tagus River and the Cristo Rei statue on the far bank. The Cristo Rei and the distant hills of the Arrábida Peninsula are visible on clear days. A kiosk café operating from mid-morning runs a terrace with plastic chairs and tables directly facing the view; locals gather here particularly in the evenings to drink beer or ginjinha (cherry liqueur) and watch the sunset. The viewpoint is surrounded by benches and low stone walls ideal for sitting. There is no charge to visit. Most visitors spend 30–60 minutes here; the combination of the panorama, the café, and the neighbourhood atmosphere of Graça makes it easy to linger longer. The Igreja da Graça behind the viewpoint, with its ornate baroque interior, is worth a brief look if open. Sunset draws a local crowd; Sunday mornings are relaxed and quiet.
