Praia de Sao Pedro de Moel

Praia de Sao Pedro de Moel is a small cove beach in Marinha Grande, Leiria District, set at the point where a wooded pine escarpment meets the Atlantic on Portugal's central coast. Unlike the long, open beaches further north, this one is more enclosed, framed by low cliffs and pine forest that give it a sheltered, intimate shape and a noticeably calmer feel in moderate swell. The sand is fine and pale, and the water tends toward a clearer blue-green than the more sediment-heavy stretches near river mouths, though surf can still be firm on exposed days. A clifftop lighthouse and pine-forest walking trails border the cove, giving the setting a scenic, semi-wild character despite its long-standing popularity as a Coimbra-area summer retreat. The atmosphere favours families and couples over a party crowd, with a village-like calm outside peak weekends. Amenities include beach bars and seafood restaurants along the seafront, sun lounger and umbrella rental, public restrooms, and a lifeguard post staffed through the summer season (Jun-Sep). Public parking is available near the village centre but is limited on August weekends. The beach is reached by car via the A17/IC2, or by Rede Expressos coach with a connection via Marinha Grande, roughly 100 km from Coimbra.
