Filadelfia sits approximately 470 km northwest of Asunción along the Ruta Transchaco (Ruta 9), the single paved highway crossing the Chaco toward the Bolivian border. The town functions as the principal service hub for the extensive Mennonite agricultural cooperatives — Fernheim, Neuland, and Menno — that progressively transformed this challenging semi-arid region into one of South America's most productive dairy and peanut farming areas from the 1930s onward. The hotel is within walking distance of the town centre, the Jakob Unger Museum (which documents Mennonite immigration and settlement history), cooperative supermarkets, and the distinctive dairy shops selling the region's locally produced cheese and cold meats.

The Westfalenhaus has been owned and operated by a German-Mennonite family for several decades and reflects the community's characteristic values of orderliness, cleanliness, and practical efficiency. Rooms are straightforward but properly appointed, with reliable air conditioning that is essential given the Chaco's extreme thermal profile — summer temperatures from October through March routinely exceed 40 °C, with the region occasionally recording some of the highest temperatures in South America. An outdoor pool provides welcome relief throughout the long hot season. The in-house restaurant serves a distinctive fusion of traditional German-Mennonite cooking — Schnitzel, Grützwurst, Eintopf stews, and multi-course cold-cut platters with local cheese — alongside Paraguayan standards including sopa paraguaya, chipa, and asado grilled meats. A small shop on the premises sells regional products: local honey, peanut butter, hard cheese, and craft items. Staff bring decades of accumulated expertise in arranging Chaco wildlife excursions. The Gran Chaco is one of South America's most biodiverse wilderness areas outside the Amazon basin, with confirmed jaguar populations, tapirs, giant anteaters, three-banded armadillos, and over 400 recorded bird species in the surrounding quebracho-thorn scrub and palm savannahs. The hotel is the established staging point for serious birders, wildlife photographers, and overland travellers crossing through the Chaco toward Bolivia.
