Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel occupies a private bay at the base of the Hajar Mountains, approximately 15 kilometres south of central Muscat along the coastal road toward Qantab. The property is framed by dramatic mountain cliffs on three sides and opens directly onto the Gulf of Oman, giving it an isolation that feels more like a private estate than a city hotel. Built in 1985 to accommodate a summit of Arab heads of state, the palace was designed with a soaring central atrium rising more than 35 metres, clad in carved plasterwork and topped by a vast stained-glass dome — an architectural statement that still impresses on arrival.

The hotel offers 250 rooms and suites spread across wings that overlook either the mountains or the sea. Superior rooms are generously proportioned and finished in warm Omani textiles and carved woodwork; suites on upper floors command unobstructed Gulf views. The 200 acres of landscaped grounds include manicured gardens, reflecting pools, and direct access to a sheltered private beach.

Dining centres on Al Khiran Terrace, an all-day venue with indoor and outdoor seating set above the beach, where a lavish breakfast buffet is served each morning. The hotel's afternoon tea service — held in the grand atrium lobby — is one of Muscat's most distinctive dining rituals. Additional venues offer casual poolside lunches and elaborate set dinners featuring Omani and international cuisine.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa provides a full range of treatments drawing on traditional Omani ingredients including frankincense and rose water. Fitness facilities occupy a dedicated centre, and outdoor pursuits encompass tennis, watersports from the private beach, and guided mountain walks. A children's programme makes the property practical for families, while the concierge team is equipped to arrange desert excursions, dhow cruises, and private transfers to Muscat's cultural sites.
