Voss Gondol and Hangursbanen

The Voss Gondol, Hangursbanen, is a cable car that lifts visitors from the edge of Voss village at Evangervegen 34 up to Hanguren at about 700 metres, in Vestland, Norway. The base station is a five-minute walk from Voss railway station, which makes it one of the most convenient mountain excursions in the region. The ride lasts around ten minutes, and cabins offer a widening view across Vossevangen, Lake Vangsvatnet and the surrounding valleys. At the top, a restaurant and terrace look over the village and lakes, and marked trails lead onto the Hangur plateau for short walks or longer hikes toward the summit of Hangurstoppen. The mountain is also the starting point for paragliding and other activities that have given Voss its reputation as Norway's adventure capital. In winter, the gondola serves as part of the Voss ski area, with the lift giving ski access to slopes and cross-country trails, and the schedule is reduced outside the main seasons, so the official site should be checked. A typical visit lasts two to three hours including the ride, a meal and a walk, though hikers may stay longer. Summer visitors can enjoy clear panoramic photographs from the terrace, with the best light in the late afternoon and early evening. The gondola is busiest on sunny summer weekends and during the winter ski season, with queues forming around midday; mornings and weekdays are calmer. Return tickets cost about NOK 380 for adults, with half price for children. Weather changes quickly on the plateau, so a windproof layer is advisable even when the village below is warm.
