Luxury Travel in North Korea 2025
Experience the finest hotels, dining, and exclusive experiences in North Korea.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is one of the world's most isolated and controlled destinations. All tourism is tightly regulated through guided tours, offering a unique glimpse into this enigmatic nation with its grand monuments, orchestrated events, and carefully curated experiences.
Luxury Hotels
The finest accommodations in North Korea.
Koryo Hotel
North Korea's flagship tourist hotel, two 43-story towers with revolving restaurants at the summit offering 360-degree panoramas of Pyongyang. The 1985 hotel features Korean BBQ and Japanese restaurants, a swimming pool, gym, karaoke, and billiards. The most prestigious address available to foreign visitors.
Yanggakdo International Hotel
North Korea's largest hotel at 47 stories, located on Yanggak Island in the Taedong River. The most complete facilities in the country including pool, casino, bowling alley, billiards, karaoke, shopping, and multiple restaurants. The island setting provides a contained and comfortable base for exploration.
Sosan Hotel
A smaller, recently renovated boutique-style hotel in central Pyongyang offering more personalized service than the mega-hotels. Well-appointed rooms, attentive staff, and a central location provide relatively refined comfort. Preferred by travelers wanting to avoid large tour group atmospheres.
Potonggang Hotel
A well-maintained riverside hotel in the Potonggang District with renovated facilities and business amenities. Comfortable rooms, a restaurant serving Korean cuisine, and a bar. The riverside location provides pleasant evening access to the waterfront promenade when permitted by guides.
Fine Dining
Exceptional culinary experiences.
Okryu-gwan
The most famous restaurant in North Korea, founded 1960 on the Taedong River bank, seating 2,000 guests. Renowned throughout the Korean world for its definitive Pyongyang-style naengmyeon (buckwheat cold noodles in chilled beef broth). Kim Jong-il reportedly sent chefs to study here, and branches have opened as far as China and Mongolia. A mandatory culinary landmark.
Koryo Hotel Revolving Restaurant
Atop the 43-story Koryo Hotel towers, this revolving restaurant completes one 360-degree rotation per hour, progressively revealing panoramic Pyongyang views. The menu combines Korean specialties with international dishes. As close as North Korea gets to a fine dining experience with theatrical setting.
Chongryu Restaurant
Sister establishment to Okryu-gwan, founded in the 1960s and located in Moranbong District. Famous for its own distinguished version of Pyongyang naengmyeon alongside traditional Korean dishes. Together with Okryu-gwan, has shaped what constitutes authentic Pyongyang cuisine over six decades.
Ryugyong Seafood Restaurant
Pyongyang's premier seafood restaurant with live fish tanks and skilled preparation of East Sea and Yellow Sea catches. Crab hot pot, live fish selection, and prawn dishes are the highlights. High-end prices by North Korean standards; reservations required through tour operator. The best quality seafood in the capital.

Exclusive Experiences
VIP access and private experiences.
Mass Games VIP Seating
When the Mass Games (Arirang Festival) are performed — typically in anniversary years — VIP seating at the Rungrado May Day Stadium provides the best views of 100,000+ synchronized performers creating living art. The most spectacular performance spectacle on earth. Premium seats offer unobstructed sightlines for photography and the full visual impact.
Mount Paektu Domestic Flight
An Air Koryo domestic flight from Pyongyang to Samjiyon Airport near Mount Paektu, allowing a visit to the sacred crater lake Heaven Lake. The remote location is otherwise inaccessible and the flight itself — on an Air Koryo propeller aircraft — is an experience. Weather-dependent; tours may be cancelled but the attempt is worthwhile.
Pyongyang Circus VIP Tickets
Front-row VIP tickets to the Pyongyang Circus, which presents genuinely world-class acrobatics, aerial acts, and comedy rooted in Soviet circus traditions. Performers train from childhood and demonstrate extraordinary skill. The front VIP seats provide intimate viewing of acts that would sell out international venues worldwide.
Private Taedong River Boat Trip
A private motor boat trip along the Taedong River through central Pyongyang, viewing the city's monuments and riverbanks from the water. Available through select tour operators for small groups. An unusual Pyongyang perspective combining the Juche Tower, Kim Il-sung Square riverfront, and the bridges from water level.
Masikryong Ski Resort Package
North Korea's purpose-built ski resort opened in 2013 near Wonsan offers modern ski lifts and slopes of varying difficulty on Mount Taehwa. All-inclusive packages include equipment rental, lift passes, accommodation at the resort hotel, and meals. One of North Korea's genuine leisure attractions operating December through February.
Private Transportation
Travel in comfort and style.
Private Car & Chauffeur
Private vehicle with driver assigned exclusively to your group is available through all tour operators for approximately $80-150/day additional charge. A private vehicle provides more flexibility in timing than shared group buses.
Private Aviation
Domestic Air Koryo flights connect Pyongyang to Samjiyon (Mount Paektu) for approximately $200-300 return. Charter flights for special groups can be arranged at premium. No helicopter transfers are commercially available.
VIP Airport Services
VIP fast-track processing at Pyongyang Sunan International Airport can be arranged through some tour operators for groups. Involves expedited immigration and luggage handling with a dedicated greeter. Costs approximately $50-100 per person additional.
Spa & Wellness
Premium relaxation and rejuvenation.
Yanggakdo Hotel Spa
The spa facility at the Yanggakdo Hotel provides massage, sauna, and relaxation treatments. The most comprehensive hotel spa in North Korea with trained staff offering Korean-style massage treatments. Available to hotel guests and day visitors by arrangement through the hotel.
Koryo Hotel Health Center
The Koryo Hotel's health and wellness facility includes a heated swimming pool, gym equipment, sauna, and massage services. Massages and sauna sessions can be booked for $20-50. The pool is the best maintained in Pyongyang and heated year-round for hotel guests.
