Third Mainland Bridge at Sunrise

Third Mainland Bridge is Lagos's longest bridge, linking Lagos Island to the mainland across the lagoon at Adekunle, Yaba. The waterfront access road beneath the bridge offers a low, wide angle onto the concrete piers receding toward the Lagos Island skyline, with fishing canoes and stilt settlements providing foreground interest. Facing east toward the rising sun, the bridge deck and support columns are backlit and silhouetted against the warm sky, while the lagoon surface reflects the color; arriving slightly before sunrise captures the pre-dawn blue tones before the sun clears the horizon. The drier harmattan-season months from November through March give the clearest sightlines across the water, since haze and rain in the wet season (April-October) soften the skyline and can obscure the far piers entirely. Early mornings are quiet, with only fishermen and a handful of other photographers present, so finding an unobstructed tripod position at the waterfront rail is straightforward if arriving by 6:15AM; later in the morning, commuter traffic noise picks up and the light flattens. There is no formal access fee to the waterfront viewpoint, and tripods are generally tolerated on the public access road, though photographers should keep gear clear of moving vehicles and avoid the bridge's pedestrian-restricted carriageway. Drones require Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority clearance and are not casually flown near this active traffic corridor.
