Kuramo Beach Grill Walk

Kuramo Beach Grill Walk is a self-guided evening walk along Kuramo Beach in Victoria Island, a stretch of Lagos coastline separated from the Atlantic by a narrow lagoon barrier, where beachfront vendors grill fish, prawns, snail, and periwinkle over open coals as sunset approaches. With no operator or fixed itinerary, visitors move between three to five neighbouring grill stands and drink kiosks over one and a half to two hours, ordering seafood grilled to order and paying individually in naira cash for each item. The walk pairs savoury grilled seafood with peppered snail and periwinkle as a spicier counterpoint, and chilled soft drinks or local beer from nearby kiosks round out the stops; nothing is bundled into a set price or ticket. The beach draws a mixed local and expatriate crowd, particularly on weekends when live music plays at some of the beachfront spots, and English is widely used alongside Pidgin with vendors. Because everything is grilled fresh to order, spice levels and portion sizes can be adjusted directly with the vendor, though there is no formal dietary substitution menu. Seating is informal, on plastic chairs or benches set out on the sand by individual vendors, and the walk is best experienced in the early evening as the sun sets over the lagoon.
