Hulbert House

Hulbert House occupies a restored 1888 Victorian homestead on Ballarat Street in the heart of Queenstown, an easy walk from the lakefront, the Mall, and the gondola base station. Built originally for Queenstown's first mayor, the heritage building has been carefully restored to retain its period character — pressed-tin ceilings, sash windows, and verandas — while the interior has been reworked into six individually designed luxury suites, each with its own colour scheme, antique and reproduction furnishings, and an open fireplace. There is no in-house restaurant, but a full cooked breakfast is served each morning in the homestead's dining room, and the property keeps a curated wine cellar that guests can draw on for evening drinks by the fire. There is no spa or pool, in keeping with the homestead's intimate scale, though guests can arrange treatments and activities through the team. Service is highly personalised given the small room count, with a resident host team providing concierge-style assistance, champagne on arrival, and turndown service, and lush private gardens offering a quiet retreat just steps from central Queenstown's restaurants and shops — best suited to couples and travellers marking a special occasion.
