Dwarika's Hotel occupies a walled compound in the Battisputali neighbourhood, roughly 2.5km east of Thamel and 4km from Tribhuvan International Airport. Founded by Dwarika Das Shrestha, who began salvaging deteriorating carved woodwork from Kathmandu's medieval buildings in the 1950s, every structure on the property is assembled from antique Newari wood carvings, handmade bricks, and traditional craft forms that would otherwise have been lost to demolition.
