Climate Overview
Myanmar has a tropical monsoon climate divided into three distinct seasons: a cool, dry winter (November-February), a hot, dry summer (March-May), and a monsoon season (June-October) with heavy rainfall and high humidity. Temperatures and rainfall vary dramatically across the country — the dry zone around Bagan and Mandalay is much drier than the coastal regions and Shan highlands.

Seasonal Breakdown
Detailed information for each season.
🌸 Spring
Mar-May
Hot and dry with temperatures peaking in April. The most uncomfortable time in Bagan and Mandalay (40°C+). Shan highlands are more bearable. Thingyan Water Festival in April is spectacular but extremely busy.
☀️ Summer
Jun-Sep
Monsoon season with heavy daily rainfall, high humidity, and flooding on some routes. Bagan temples atmospheric in green, lush setting. Inle Lake rises significantly. Beaches inaccessible due to rough seas.
🍂 Fall
Oct-Nov
Shoulder season as monsoon retreats. October can still be wet but November is excellent — temperatures dropping, landscapes green and beautiful from rains, and crowds building. Best for Kalaw trekking.
❄️ Winter
Dec-Feb
Peak tourist season with ideal weather: warm days (25-32°C in lowlands, cooler in highlands), low humidity, and clear skies. Perfect for all regions. Bagan balloon season runs full schedule. Northern hills can be surprisingly cold at night.
