Kasbah Tamadot

Kasbah Tamadot sits in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains near the Berber village of Asni, about an hour's drive south of Marrakesh, with views toward Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. Sir Richard Branson bought the property, then a private kasbah owned by an Italian antiques dealer, and spent two years restoring it before opening it in 2005 as his first hotel; the antiques dealer's collection of furnishings and artefacts still fill many of the public rooms and suites. The 2023 Al Haouz earthquake damaged the property, which has since been rebuilt and gone on to earn three MICHELIN Keys and repeated Condé Nast Traveller recognition. Around forty rooms, riads, Berber tents, and suites are individually decorated with traditional Moroccan and Berber furnishings and antiques, several with private plunge pools or hot tubs, spread across gardens terraced into the mountainside. Two restaurants serve Moroccan and international menus using produce from the kasbah's own garden, and the courtyard has been remodelled to house a five-star spa offering hammam treatments, massage, and relaxation therapies, alongside tennis courts and an infinity pool looking out over the valley. The remote mountain setting supports guided hiking into the Atlas foothills and visits to nearby Berber villages, and the level of antiques, art, and personal service throughout reflects its origin as a private residence rather than a purpose-built hotel, making it best suited to guests seeking a luxury mountain retreat rather than easy access to city sightseeing.
