Munkh Tenger Ger Camp occupies the southern shoreline of Lake Khövsgöl in northern Mongolia, within Khövsgöl National Park approximately 6 kilometres south of Khatgal village. Khatgal is the terminus of the main unsealed access road from Mörön, the provincial capital roughly 100 kilometres to the southeast. Lake Khövsgöl is one of the largest and most biodiverse freshwater bodies in Asia, holding approximately 70 percent of Mongolia's surface freshwater. The camp's lakefront position provides direct water access and unobstructed views across the lake's 136-kilometre length toward the forested Mongolian-Russian border, with taiga forest descending to a rocky pebble shoreline directly in front of the camp.
The camp consists of approximately 25 traditional gers arranged in a crescent along the shore. Unlike budget ger camps in the region, Munkh Tenger's gers are fitted with hardwood floors, flush-toilet en-suite bathroom facilities in adjacent wooden structures, central heating units, and premium bedding with additional blankets for cold nights. Guest ger interiors retain traditional painted wooden furniture, hand-sewn wall hangings, and decorative central stove fittings as visual references to nomadic style. The main dining ger is a larger communal structure serving three meals daily; the evening menu covers Mongolian staples including khorhog (stone-cooked mutton) and tsuivan noodle dishes alongside international alternatives prepared by trained kitchen staff. A bar area within the dining ger stocks local and imported beer, wine, and spirits.
Activity programming is central to the camp experience: horseback riding along forested trails and the lakeshore, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding on Khövsgöl's clear water, guided fly-fishing excursions targeting taimen and lenok, and wildlife tracking walks with naturalist guides focusing on reindeer, argali, and endemic bird species. Cultural performance evenings featuring throat singing and traditional instrument demonstration are scheduled multiple times per week.
