Horseback Riding at Hacienda Soltepec

Hacienda Soltepec, a colonial-era estate at the foot of La Malinche in Huamantla Municipality, Tlaxcala, offers guided countryside horseback rides across roughly 4-8km of hacienda grounds and the volcano's lower slopes. Rides suit beginners and experienced riders alike; wranglers match horses to rider experience and children usually need to be accompanied by an adult on a lead line rather than riding solo. The horse, saddle and helmet are provided; riders should bring closed-toe shoes with a low heel, long trousers to avoid chafing, and a sun hat, since much of the route crosses open farmland with little shade. Hacienda Soltepec has operated horseback tours for decades as part of its working estate and events venue, and its wranglers are experienced with both novice riders and longer excursions toward the Malinche foothills. Every ride opens with a short briefing on mounting, basic rein control and stopping the horse, and wranglers lead the group at a walk or gentle trot, staying alert to any horse showing signs of stress; a wrangler on horseback accompanies the group throughout in case a rider needs assistance or a horse needs to be led back. Riding is possible year-round, but the dry season from November to April offers firmer trails and clearer skies, while the June-to-October rains can turn sections of the route muddy and slow the pace. The standard ride runs about 1 hour 45 minutes, with longer routes toward La Malinche available for more experienced riders.
