Tula Pueblo Mágico

Tula is a Pueblo Mágico in the highlands of southwestern Tamaulipas, about 165 km from Ciudad Victoria along Federal Highway 101, a drive of roughly two to two and a half hours. The town sits at a higher, cooler elevation than the state capital and is known for its colonial-era stone architecture, hand-tooled leather goods, and a distinct regional cuisine built around goat and dried meats. A typical day trip departs Ciudad Victoria early in the morning to allow a full day in town before the return drive; the highway passes through Jaumave and climbs steadily into pine-oak country. Mornings are best spent walking the historic center around the main plaza and the parish church, browsing leather workshops that produce saddles, belts, and boots by hand, and visiting the municipal market for local cheeses and sweets. Afternoons can include a visit to a nearby ranch or a short walk to viewpoints overlooking the surrounding sierra before starting the return drive while there is still daylight, since the highway is not recommended for night travel. Restaurants around the plaza serve regional specialties such as cabrito al pastor and asado de puerco, and these are the primary food stops on the route since services thin out along the highway itself. The cooler months from October to April are the most comfortable for walking the town, while summer afternoons can bring sudden mountain storms.
