Puente Tampico (Puente Vehicular Tampico-Pueblo Viejo)

Puente Tampico, formally the Puente Vehicular Tampico-Pueblo Viejo, is a cable-stayed toll bridge carrying Carretera Federal 180 across the Río Pánuco, connecting Tampico, Tamaulipas, with Pueblo Viejo, Veracruz. Rather than a pedestrian attraction, the bridge is best appreciated as a visual landmark from the riverfront, where its tall support towers and long main span dominate the skyline over the river. Visitors do not typically walk or linger on the bridge itself, since it carries vehicle traffic only and has a toll of roughly MXN 45 to 60 per crossing; instead, the standard way to experience it is a short vehicle crossing or, more commonly, viewing it from the Tampico or Pueblo Viejo riverbank. Sunset is the most popular time to view the bridge, when its structure is silhouetted against the sky and its lights begin to show against the darkening river. The bridge is visible from several points along the Tampico riverfront near the historic center, making it easy to combine with a walk through Zona Centro or a stop at a riverside restaurant with a bridge view. For visitors driving between Tamaulipas and Veracruz, crossing the bridge takes only 5 to 10 minutes but offers a brief elevated view over the river and the port activity below.
