The mix leans almost entirely toward authentic, locally used goods rather than souvenirs or trinkets, since the clientele is mostly Hermosillo residents doing daily shopping. Prices are fixed at most stalls, though light bargaining on larger produce or meat orders is tolerated, especially for cash purchases; card payment is rare and cash in pesos is the norm. There is no tax-refund program at this market, as it does not cater to duty-free tourist shopping. The atmosphere is loud, fast-paced, and most active in the early morning; a handful of comedor stands near the Elías Calles entrance serve caldo de queso and tacos de carne seca for a quick meal. The must-visit corners are the dried-chile and spice section near the Matamoros side and the carne seca stalls toward the back, where vendors dry and pack beef in full view.
