Álamos Plaza de Armas and La Parroquia

Álamos's Plaza de Armas is ringed by restored colonial silver-baron mansions and anchored by La Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción, and the classic frame places the church's twin-tower facade in the background with the plaza's wrought-iron benches and arcades in the foreground. Late-afternoon light rakes warmly across the cantera stone, while staying through blue hour lets the plaza's period street lamps and the church's simple floodlighting balance against a darkening sky. The dry season from October to April brings clear, dust-free air and cooler evening temperatures than the intense summer heat, when midday sun is harsh and few people are out. The plaza is busiest during Álamos's January Alfonso Ortiz Tirado music festival and around Sunday Mass, otherwise it stays relatively quiet, making a tripod easy to set up on most weekday evenings. There is no fee to photograph the plaza or church exterior, and a tripod is unrestricted in the open public square.
