The Los Mochis railway station is the western terminus of the Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico, popularly known as El Chepe, one of Mexico's most scenic rail journeys, connecting the Sinaloa coast to the Copper Canyon and the city of Chihuahua. Travelers boarding here begin a full-day journey that climbs from sea level through tropical lowlands into pine-forested canyon country, crossing dozens of bridges and tunnels carved through the Sierra Madre Occidental. The station itself has a ticket hall, waiting area, and platform where the Chepe Express or Chepe Regional trains depart, typically in the early morning to allow daylight views of the canyon's most dramatic stretches. Visitors not riding the full route sometimes visit simply to see the station and watch a departure. For those boarding, the experience of the journey itself, rather than the station building, is the main draw, with window-side seats offering the best canyon views. Early morning departures are the norm, and the station is busiest in the hour before a scheduled train leaves.
