Tacos Rojos Dona Juanita is widely regarded as the oldest and most famous tacos rojos stand in San Luis Potosi, operating from the same street corner in the Barrio de Tequisquiapan for more than six decades under the same family. There is no chef in the formal sense; the stand's reputation rests on a technique passed down through generations for folding and frying small tacos in ancho-chile masa, filled with potato or cheese and topped with a distinctive house salsa verde. There is no seating beyond a few stools at the cart, no dress code, and no reservation system; customers order by the half-dozen and eat standing at the corner in a genuinely street-food atmosphere. There is no beverage programme beyond bottled soda. At 12-16 MXN per taco, ordered typically by the half-dozen, it remains one of the most affordable and authentic street-food experiences in the city, with lines common during the evening opening hours from 6PM.
