Cave Swim and Cliff Jump at Puente de Dios

The cave swim and cliff jump at Puente de Dios is a self-guided water activity through a natural limestone cavern and a series of connected turquoise pools carved by the Río Tamasopo, near the ejido of Paso Ancho in the Tamasopo municipality of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The swim route covers roughly 100 to 150 metres through the cavern and its pools, with several jump ledges ranging from about two to five metres for those who want to leap into the deeper water. The activity requires no technical skill, only comfortable swimming ability, since participants wade and swim through the cavern rather than following a guided technical line; a mandatory life jacket is required for everyone entering the water, including confident swimmers, and is rented on site rather than brought from outside. There is no dedicated tour operator running organised trips here; instead, the local ejido cooperative that manages Puente de Dios controls entry, issues the mandatory life jackets, and monitors the cliff-jump areas, stepping in if conditions look unsafe at a given ledge. Visitors bring swimwear, quick-dry clothing, water shoes with grip for the slippery cavern floor, and a waterproof dry bag for phones or cash, since none of that is provided by the site. Basic safety guidance is posted at the jump points, and ejido staff can close specific ledges after heavy rain raises the river or reduces visibility of submerged rocks below the jump line; anyone unable to judge water depth clearly from above should skip the jump and use the marked swim route instead. The best season for the visit is November through April, when the Río Tamasopo runs clear and at a lower, calmer level that suits both the cavern swim and the cliff jumps; during the rainy months from May to October, the river can rise and cloud, which increases risk at the jump ledges and sometimes prompts the ejido to restrict jumping while still allowing the cavern swim.
