Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Quintana Roo.
Quintana Roo is Mexico's easternmost state, stretching along the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and encompassing world-famous beach resorts, ancient Maya ruins, and the second-largest coral reef system on Earth. From the glittering hotel zone of Cancun to the bohemian clifftop ruins of Tulum and the tranquil island of Isla Holbox, the state offers an extraordinary range of experiences. Beneath the jungle floor, thousands of cenotes—natural freshwater sinkholes—create one of the world's most spectacular cave-diving and snorkeling environments.

Seasonal Breakdown
Detailed information for each season.
🌸 Spring
Mar-May
March and April are peak season with excellent beach weather, calm seas, and clear skies. Late April and May see the first rains of the wet season begin—short afternoon showers that cool things down. Whale shark season begins on Holbox in June.
☀️ Summer
Jun-Aug
Hot and humid with daily afternoon rain showers, typically 1-2 hours that pass quickly. Seas can be rougher with swells from distant Atlantic storms. Whale shark season peaks June-September on Holbox. Hurricane risk begins but major storms are uncommon this early in the season.
🍂 Fall
Sep-Nov
September and October are the riskiest hurricane months—storms can be severe and disruptive. However, November sees the weather dramatically improve, with clear skies, lower humidity, and calm seas returning. November is one of the best-value months.
❄️ Winter
Dec-Feb
The best time to visit—warm, dry, and sunny with the most reliable beach and diving conditions of the year. Brief 'nortes' (cold fronts from North America) can bring 2-3 days of overcast skies and choppy seas in January-February, but these pass quickly.
