The town, another Pueblo Mágico, is built around a compact grid of colonial streets radiating from the leafy Jardin Hidalgo plaza and is known for its thermal spa hotels, artisan cheese and wine shops, and woven basketry sold in the municipal market. A typical day begins with a morning walk through the plaza and the adjoining Templo de Santa Maria de la Asuncion, followed by browsing the Mercado de Artesanias for wicker baskets and regional cheese. Many visitors spend the afternoon at one of the town's balneario-style hotels with thermal pools, or drive the short wine route to nearby vineyards such as Viñedos La Redonda. Food options range from cheese-and-wine tasting menus at boutique shops on Calle Moctezuma to traditional fondas around the plaza serving gorditas and barbacoa on weekends. The town suits a relaxed year-round visit, though late May into June draws crowds for the Feria Nacional del Queso y el Vino, when the fairgrounds host tastings from dozens of regional producers. Arriving by the first morning bus leaves time to combine the town visit with a wine-route stop before the last afternoon return departure.
