Laguna de Valsequillo (Presa Manuel Ávila Camacho)

Laguna de Valsequillo, formally the Presa Manuel Ávila Camacho, is a large reservoir south of Puebla City rather than a natural coastal beach — Puebla is a landlocked state, so this dam-formed lake is the closest large body of water to the capital. The shoreline is a mix of hard-packed earth and low grassy banks rather than sand, and the water carries a greenish, mineral-rich tint typical of a working reservoir rather than the clear turquoise of a coastal beach. The reservoir stretches over several kilometers, with a broad, open shape shaped by the dam wall and surrounding hills; exposure to wind picks up in the afternoon, which locals use for small sailboats and kayaks rather than swimming. The atmosphere leans toward families and day-trippers who come to eat lakeside rather than sunbathers, since swimming in the reservoir itself is uncommon and not actively promoted. Amenities cluster around the dock area, where operators rent boats and kayaks and a handful of restaurants serve regional Puebla dishes such as mixiotes and barbacoa with a lake view; there is no lifeguard service anywhere on the reservoir. Public restrooms are limited to what individual restaurants provide. The lake sits immediately next to Africam Safari, and many visitors combine the two into a single half-day outing from Puebla City. Access is by road only: the reservoir is reached by taxi, rideshare, or rental car in about 30-40 minutes from central Puebla, with parking available near the restaurant strip and boat docks; there is no direct public bus route to the shoreline itself.
